The Al-Marnich Farm and Nature Resort is comprised of three quaint homesteads dating back to the 1700s. It still has the original stables handed down by previous generations. All buildings have been expertly restored, putting together the time-old successful Italian recipe of stone, earth and wood to accentuate their originality and purposeful use in these modern days. In olden times the local workers of the fields used these humble edifices for breeding their stock, growing and storing food in a practical self-sufficient manner and rearing their families. In those days there were goats, sheep and cattle all about. It was a favourite part of the Valley Intelvi featuring the nearby town of Schignano with its famous ‘Carnevale’. This township once boasted 2,200 inhabitants and now it has 900 enjoying the fruits of this rich pastoral land. Today Al-Marnich keeps the tradition alive…
The Al-Marnich Farm and Nature Resort is perched on a mountain range of up to 750 meters (2,460 feet) above sea level. This micro-climate differs to that of the banks of Lake Como which is just 8 km (5 miles) away by car. From the undulating terrain to the hilltops it can only be described as a self-sufficient agricultural wonder proud to present its guests with local produce such as tangy berries, walnuts, prunes, wild mountain honey, persimmon, strawberry grapes and various vegetables of which are carefully cultivated in our natural greenhouse. Al-Marnich has much to offer: in particular our floriculture, not to mention the lavender and other medicinal and therapeutic plants. In respect of our breeding program, the surrounding steep hills and natural acreage are ideal for our organic husbandry practices for our goats. However, our Farm and Nature Resort has since dedicated itself to the breeding, raising and nurturing of goats which contribute to our production of specialist cheeses and other delicacies. A diverse culture in harmony with its mild micro-climate.
